VICTORIAN SOLITAIRE BOARD WITH MARBLES. A wonderful 19th century solid mahogany solitaire board with replacement new and vintage marbles, specially selected for size and beauty to go perfectly with this board. There are 32 marbles in all, 10 are vintage used marbles (mainly cat's eyes).
The other new 22 machine made marbles are equally beautiful, many with unique patterns and swirls, it's hard to tell they are not handmade. The marbles are a small size and approximately 16mm in diameter. The lines and green painted area on the board are for other traditional games known as Fox and Geese and Three Men's Morris.
This marble game would look beautiful displayed on a coffee table or side table. Not for use by young children due to the small marbles (parental supervision may be required). Condition: The condition of the board is good, it has a very tiny old hole (1.5mm) penetrating all the way through the board - see photo. It shows signs of use with dents and marks, but has a beautiful patina from age. It would have had three ball feet on the base, but these have been long missing. The vintage marbles will have the odd ding or scratch here and there. Age: Board 19th century (marbles are brand new or 20th century vintage replacements). Diameter of board: 23.5 cm (9 ΒΌ in).
