Victorian wooden solitaire board marked Murton Newcastle + medium 22mm marbles
VICTORIAN WOODEN SOLITAIRE BOARD WITH MARBLES. A wonderful rare 19th century wooden solitaire board marked'Murton Newcastle', with replacement new marbles, some are handmade, specially selected for size and beauty to go perfectly with this board. There are 32 marbles in all, 11 are individually hand made and have pontil marks where they were made using a rod.
The other machine made marbles are equally beautiful, each with unique patterns and swirls it's hard to tell they are not handmade. The marbles are a medium size and 22mm in diameter. Unusually the board has retained its three bun feet most boards lose them! The lines and green painted area on the board are for other traditional games known as Fox and Geese and Three Men's Morris.
This marble game would look beautiful displayed on a coffee table or side table. Not for use by young children due to the small marbles (parental supervision may be required). Condition: The condition of the board is good.
There is a handwritten letter'J' on the base with some other pencil lines. The marbles are new and unused. Age: Board 19th century (marbles are brand new replacements). Diameter of board: 23.5 cm (9 ΒΌ in).
