The 13th century saw the Papacy at the peak of it's power, England under the turmoil of baronial revolts, the emergence of monarchical, the rise of the Teutonic Knights, Venetian supremacy over the Mediterranean, the rise of the Mameluks and terrifying rumours of the Mongol horde. Each player represents the head of a cabal, intent on building the greatest power across the known world. Wage war, excommunicate your enemies, call for Crusades, spread your influence and wrestle control of rival provinces and kingdoms.

With spies, assassins, incidences of heresy and disasters rife the balance of power may swing in your favour but beware the approaching horde from the East. On their turn players may choose to take actions using cards (some mandatory, some optional), collect income as well as attack opposing powers. Mongols (the non player power) arrive each time their card is drawn, launching powerful attacks that can lay waste to entire tiles, giving Eastern power players a real challenge to contend with! The winner is the player who survives the onslaughts of war, religion and the Mongol's path of destruction to control the largest power.
